Your first in-house move, done properly

Most in-house transfer pricing roles fall into one of two camps. Either you inherit a policy someone else wrote and spend your days feeding it, or you join a function that is still working out what it wants to be. This is neither.

You would be joining the central Transfer Pricing team of one of Europe's largest privately owned consumer goods groups, a business that has grown across several generations from a single family enterprise into an international group with tens of thousands of employees and household-name brands.

It remains family-owned and independently run, which means decisions get made quickly, the tax function has a real seat at the table, and nobody is waiting on a quarterly earnings call to decide what happens next.

We think this is exactly the kind of role a strong Big 4, law firm or boutique junior TP Manager should be looking at for a first in-house step. You keep the technical breadth. You gain the commercial context, the ownership and the visibility that advisory rarely gives you.

What you will actually be doing:

This is a genuinely broad remit. You will own the group's central transfer pricing documentation, including the Master File and Country-by-Country reporting, and support local tax teams around the world on intercompany agreements, benchmarking and local compliance.

The interesting part sits beyond the documentation. You will define and implement pricing methodologies across the full range of intra-group transactions: goods, services, licences and financial transactions. You will also review how well transfer pricing policies are being applied across the group and play an active part in optimising and harmonising the group's tax structures.

You will support tax audits worldwide, with a clear brief to keep disputes with tax authorities from arising in the first place. You will work alongside Treasury and Legal on M&A projects. And you will help drive the digitalisation of the transfer pricing function, so an interest in AI tools and SAP, or a real appetite to build those skills, will serve you well.

Add to that a watching brief on national and international tax developments, and the occasional trip to sites across the group to represent the transfer pricing team in person.

Why we love working with this client:

We say this to candidates a lot: the best in-house roles are the ones where the tax function is trusted rather than tolerated. That is what we see here.

This is a group that has stayed family-owned by choice, and it shows in the culture. The people we deal with are direct, decisive and refreshingly free of corporate theatre. They back their people with responsibility early, they invest in technology rather than talking about it, and they take a long-term view because they can. Courage and forward-thinking are not slogans on a wall here; they are how the business has been run through several generations.

For a Transfer Pricing professional, the practical upside is real variety. Manufacturing, logistics, major retail relationships, intra-group financing, IP, and cross-border supply chains that touch products people buy every week. It is a proper operating business with a proper supply chain and you will understand it from the inside.

And there is a personal note from us. This client has been open, responsive and clear with us about what they want. That makes for a good process, and in our experience it makes for a good employer.

Who we are looking for

At least five years' transfer pricing experience, gained in a Big 4 firm, law firm, boutique or the tax department of a multinational. A degree in law, business, economics or a related discipline, ideally with a tax or finance specialism. Solid technical grounding across international tax and transfer pricing, with hands-on exposure to documentation, benchmarking and methodology design Commercial curiosity, and a real interest in how supply chains and value drivers work in practice. Confidence with data and systems. Experience with SAP and AI tools is welcome; genuine interest in developing those skills is essential. A strong communicator who can make complex ideas land with colleagues across countries and functions. Willingness to travel to group sites when needed. FMCG experience is a plus.

The practical bits

This role is based at the group's UK head office in Shropshire, roughly an hour from south Manchester and well placed for Cheshire, Staffordshire and the West Midlands.
