Take charge of your job search...

29.10.2025

We are now fast approaching the end of 2025 and, at TPI Search, we are getting more job applicants than ever.

However, we are seeing a troubling trend with applicants and it is worth sharing this to bring it to the top of the minds of those of you who are actively searching for a new role.

When you apply to one of our advertised jobs, we will ask you straight away if you have applied to a role at the company we are working with at anytime within the past 6-12 months, either via a direct application you have made yourself or via a 3rd party recruiter.

This should go without saying, but you have to be honest about your answer!!

Why?

If you have applied to any role at any of the clients we are working with at any time within 6-12 months from the day you speak to us, under the legal contract we have with many of our clients, we will be prohibited from representing you, until 6-12 months from the date your CV was disclosed to our client.

No ifs. No buts.

Again, why is this important?

Credibility. Integrity. Respect.

If you fail to disclose an application and we then represent you, only to be told by our client that we received an application from you a few days or weeks ago, we all look bad.

Disorganised. Unprofessional. Duplicitous.

And making a bad first impression is not the way to start off a job search.

Many people come to me saying, “but Aaron, I've applied to a job but have not heard anything back from the company. Surely you can now help me move things along?”

No. I can't unfortunately.

And, if you have applied and not heard back, you do need to tell your recruiter because the application timeline his highly relevant.

The best people I've worked with have kept a clear record of their job applications so when they speak with me, they are very clear about where and when they have applied for certain roles. They become an absolute pleasure to work with.

It's your job search so you should take responsibility for recording where you have applied if not merely for your own peace of mind.

The only circumstances where we may be able to help is where a 3rd party recruiter has spammed your CV anywhere and everywhere without your express permission.

You should get confirmation in writing of where your CV is being sent to and agree to the plans you've discussed with your recruiter.

We are here to help but we cannot help if you blindfold us and tie one hand behind our backs.
