Transfer Pricing Recruitment / Hiring Impact of COVID-19

As firms around the globe are doing their best to manage the impact of COVID-19, we are being asked on a daily basis from our extended Transfer Pricing family how this is going to affect strategic hiring needs in the coming weeks/months.

To help Transfer Pricing and Tax professionals understand the recruitment impact, TP International will be offering a digestible range of articles and videos over the coming weeks.

It is evident and clear that the hiring rate has declined across countries where COVID-19 has become more serious. However, data received from LinkedIn shows that the hiring rate has already started to improve in China after the country followed aggressive containment efforts and saw progress in stemming the spread of the virus. 

Some organisations have already implemented mandatory quarantines on hiring which will be continually reviewed as the situation evolves.  Other firms are continuing to hire for critical roles using VC and remote interviewing technology.

Understandably, the COVID-19 crisis will have a significant impact on government coffers, business profits and the underlying backbone of some countries’ infrastructure. This being said, the OECD have declared it is continuing with its work on finding a unified approach to tax the digitalisation of the economy – now an even more important task as businesses need to expedite their digitalisation plans.

The number of tax incentives, relaxed tax compliance deadlines and possible stimulus measures will grow in the coming weeks. If changes in digital taxation or BEPS was not keeping tax professionals busy enough, the fallout of the coronavirus will.
